Biodegradable cremation urns: An eco-friendly, hands-free option for scattering ashes
To honor your loved ones or beloved pets, you may wish to bury their remains in the earth or spread their remains in the sea using a biodegradable cremation urn. The advantage of using a biodegradable urn is that it’s made of 100% natural elements that will not harm the environment. It’s also a contained, hands-free manner to “scatter” your loved one’s ashes, ensuring the remains are treated with honor and dignity as they’re dispersed.
Our biodegradable urns are 100% natural
Our biodegradable cremation urns and biodegradable pet urns are made entirely of natural materials ― including clay, sand, and organic proteins and compounds ― so they are 100% biodegradable and ecologically-friendly. Each urn has small holes in it to help it dissolve, as well as sink (in the case of urns cast to sea).
When you bury one of our biodegradable cremation urns or biodegradable pet urns in soil, it naturally dissolves within an average of 120 days under normal conditions. With higher temperatures and moisture levels, it can disintegrate in as little as 60 days. If you are casting your cremation urn into water, the urn naturally dissolves in three to 48 hours. In hot water, the disintegration of a biodegradable urn can take place in as little as one hour.
If you are briefly storing a biodegradable cremation urn or biodegradable pet urn before burying it or casting it in water, please place it in an area with minimal humidity (less than 30 percent, if possible) and avoid sudden temperature changes. Otherwise, your urn may begin peeling, which is the start of the disintegration process.
Another option for a cremation urn that can biodegrade
All of our ceramic cremation urns can be buried and biodegrade in soil. Each of our ceramic artists uses earth-friendly glazes and clays, so our ceramic urns disintegrate in an ecologically-friendly manner. Due to the density of ceramic urns, as well as other inherent characteristics, these urns may take significantly longer to disintegrate than the biodegradable cremation urns described above.
