It is never easy to lose a loved one unexpectedly, as there are so many decisions to be made in a short amount of time. When Tiffani and her family realized they could have an urn custom made for their mother, the choice was easy. She was able to incorporate her mother’s connection and love for Africa’s Ghana into the celebration of her beautiful life.
Here is Tiffani’s experience:
My mother was larger than life. As a performing artist who had a connection with her African ancestry, it was a loss when she passed unexpectedly. She was considered an “Elder” in the community who touched the lives of so many people. She was a teacher, mentor, mom, grandma, and entertainer. She had a smile that was perfect all the time.
While trying to decide on an urn we realized there was an option to customize one. This was perfect for us as nothing else would have worked for her. We chose a simple kente design to celebrate her love and connection to Ghana. Her connection was formed in the early ’70s during a year-long exchange as a college student and over the past 7-8 years, she spent months there annually. She was one of the few American born performers who brought traditional Ghanaian dance, drum, and culture to EVERYONE. This urn with custom painted African cloth around it was the only choice for us.
Tiffani’s mother spent her life sharing the culture of Ghana with everyone she knew. It is only fitting that she is now embraced by this urn wrapped in a beautiful hand-painted African cloth, keeping all of those memories alive for those who knew her.
