If you’re looking for an urn for a loved or maybe even for yourself, then you likely already know how many options there are for beautiful, premade urns. The styles range from modern to classic and they’re available in materials from stone to glass and everything in between. But, if you want something really special, we recommend having a custom urn made for you or your loved one. After all, this is going to be their final resting place and a lasting memorial to their life, why not go the extra step and make something truly personal and remarkable? Here are several examples of what some people have done in order to create unique custom memorial urns.
Several years ago, a 13 year old girl, Milly Wood, was inspired to create and urn made entirely of Legos. What the inspiration was, we aren’t certain, but we think it’s a great idea, pairing whimsy, a sense of youth and a little dose of nostalgia. Plus, you can’t help but smile a little when you see an urn made entirely of Legos.
Handmade Copper Urn
Sure, there are a number of beautiful copper urns on the market today, but when we saw the metal crafting skills of a Colorado artist, we thought they were absolutely beautiful and commissioned a custom memorial urn for our gallery. A red maple tree, constructed from copper wire with copper and brass leaves, springs from its pewter base. Additional color was applied to the leaves, resulting in a brilliant and realistic display of foliage. Both the pewter base and maple tree were coated with clear lacquer creating a stunning copper memorial.
Having our business based in Colorado, one of the most craft beer friendly states in the country, we know how much people love their beer. We often receive requests for a “your favorite brand here” beer urn, but due to trademark limitations, we often cannot produce an exact replica for the memorial. However, we were able to commission a local artist to create this amazing tribute to beer lovers—complete with actual bottlecaps!
Bowling Ball Urn
Another request we commonly see is for a bowling ball urn. We explored multiple options to convert an existing bowling ball into an urn—and learned how impenetrable they are in the process! Working with our artists, we were able to develop a vessel suitable for ashes. This custom urn is such a great representation of creative thinking and a completely atypical urn that is perfect for a bowling enthusiast.
These are only a handful of examples of truly meaningful and beautiful urns that you could have designed for yourself or a loved one. The sky is the limit, so talk to an urn artisan today!
