To create these unique urns, our artists use a variety of woods. Some relish carving beautiful urns out of urban trees destined for landfills, such as Siberian elm, silver maple, green ash, and box elder. Others prefer to work with more exotic materials.
Many of our artists use a lathe ― a rotating, wood-working instrument ― to forge and shape the wood. Due to the artisan nature of wood carving, every piece is a one-of-a-kind work of art. Various finishes bring out vivid color tones and unique textures in the wood. Urns made of wood are sturdy and durable.
Wooden urns for ashes tend to be sturdier and more durable than other types of cremation urns, with the exception of metal urns. While it’s possible to nick or dent a wooden urn, you’re unlikely to break it, making it ideal for display in many parts of your home.
